Flood Operations for Emergency Planners & Workers

The Flood Operations course has been designed in conjunction with district councils and the Environment Agency with the aim of providing their Emergency Planners & Workers with the necessary knowledge and techniques to enable them to assess and work in flood environments.
The course is a mixture of theory input and in-water practical sessions and is run over 2 days.
On successful completion of the course candidates will receive a certificate and skill sheet, with copies being sent to their organisations as well if required.
Key content areas include:
Theory
- Hydrology & water hazards
- Flood theory & dynamics
- Working near, on or in-water – H&S considerations & risk management
- Personal protective equipment
- Rescue protocols
Practical
- Defensive swimming & self-rescue
- Shout & reach rescues
- Use of throwlines
- Shallow water crossing techniques for flood access & evacuation
- Use of boats for flood evacuation
Course pre-requisites
- Candidates should be confident swimming in open water
