University Validation
Rescue 3 (UK) is a partner training organisation of the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) and, through this partnership, delivers a number of Higher Education (HE) awards, including a Foundation Degree in Technical Rescue Instruction.
These HE Awards can be achieved by completing a specific combination of courses (modules), for instance, to gain the Advanced Certificate in Swiftwater Rescue Instruction you would need to complete two SRT modules, an SRTA and an SRT Instructor module.
These Awards have been designed to be progressive so, for example, you could gain your Advanced Certificate in Swiftwater Rescue Instruction and then opt to progress onto the Foundation Certificate in Technical Rescue Instruction.
The Awards are currently available on a part-time basis and modules are Open enrolment across the year.

Awards and HE credits

Delegates with existing Rescue 3 (UK) / Rescue 3 International or equivalent qualifications
If you have existing Rescue 3 or equivalent qualifications you may be able to transfer them into the award programme through the ‘accredited prior learning’ (APL), scheme. A maximum of two-thirds of an award can be APL-ed i.e., for the 120 credit Foundation Certificate in Technical Rescue Instruction a maximum of 80 credits can be transferred, the remaining 40 credits must be gained through completion of the award modules.
Fees
Currently the University fees are included within the standard course costs. However, due to the UK Government’s re-structuring of Higher Education Funding it is highly likely that an additional fee for University accreditation may be introduced in June 2012. University Award - Admissions Criteria
Students must be engaged with the area of Swiftwater Rescue / Rescue Boat / Technical Rescue, as demonstrated through employer sponsorship, work experience within the industry (paid or voluntary), prior experiential learning/training and/or educational attainment. These criteria are not pre-requisites for admission but will be considered along with previous life experience and a demonstrated enthusiasm for a career within/related to the Swiftwater Rescue / Rescue Boat / Technical Rescue Industry.
Access to a computer with a broadband connection and basic IT skills (ability to navigate web-pages & produce basic Word documents), are essential to engage with the blended learning aspects. Employer’s sponsorship of the student will contribute significantly to this demonstration of engagement.
Students attending the Swiftwater Rescue courses must be able to swim at least 25 metres to participate in the practical elements required for the Professional qualification (Rescue 3) aspects.
