Training Facilities

Our North East Regional Training Centre is based at the Tees Barrage International White Water Centre (TBIWWC), Stockton-on-Tees and offers world-class swiftwater and flood rescue training facilities, including a purpose-built rescue training channel which accommodates our in-water training vehicle.

The centre has two white water channels, one of which was specifically designed as a rescue training channel. This Rescue Training Course is 95 metres long with a 3.7 metre drop and has a fully adjustable flow, which can simulate various flood levels. In addition the features are fully adjustable through the use of the Rapidbloc system, which allows common river and flood features to be replicated. One added major feature of the course is the facility to put a vehicle in the water - currently this is the only venue in the UK which can offer a fully risk assessed vehicle in water.

The course can operate utilising natural flow from the upper river Tees during low tide conditions or when tides do not allow the facility is pumped via 4 Archimedes Screws; both systems guarantee reliable and controlled water levels. The water is regularly tested for quality by the Environment Agency and consistently reaches above National Bathing Standards set by Defra.

The course is overlooked by the North Shore building which includes a cafe, changing rooms (with lockers and hot showers), classroom, equipment stores, drying rooms and watersports shop. There are a number of hotels in the area including a Premier Inn which has an onsite restaurant, both of which are located within walking distance of the course.

Rescue 3 (UK)'s two Regional Training Centres also offer state-of-the art training facilities - Rescue 3 (UK) and Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service Training Academy Access & Rescue School.
