Re-Certification of Training Courses - Detailed Information
General information | Detailed information | Re-certification within 3 years | Re-certification after 3 years
- Rescue 3 International training courses and competency based assessments need to be re-certified every three years.
- If you are within the three year re-certification period you can re-certify by either:
a) Re-attending your current level of training i.e. if you are an SRT Unit 1 Technician you can re-certify by attending another SRT Unit 1 course
b) Attending the next level of training course (if applicable) i.e. if you are an SRT Unit 1 Technician you can re-certify this award by attending an SRT Advanced course. Both your SRT Unit 1 status and Advanced status will then be valid for three years from the date of attendance on the SRT Advanced class. - If more than 3 years have elapsed since you have attended a training course you can re-certify by re-attending your current level of training i.e. if you are an SRT Unit 1 Technician you can re-certify by attending another SRT Unit 1 course.
You cannot re-certify your technician status by attending the next level of training - you need to re-certify at the current technician level first i.e. if you attended an SRT Unit 1 course four years ago before you can attend an SRT Advanced class you need to re-certify your SRT Unit 1 status by attending an SRT Unit 1 class.
If more then 3 years have elapsed since you attended a training course you are no longer eligible to re-certify that course at a discounted price and need to pay the full course fee.
- As there is no pre-requisite training requirement to attend an SRT Unit 1 or Technical Rope Rescue Technician class you can attend even if a prior status is no longer active i.e. if you attended an Operations Swiftwater First Responder course 5 years ago you can still attend an SRT Unit 1 class.
- Courses re-certify any previous training at the same or lower level. You cannot re-certify any courses at a higher level i.e. if you re-certify by attending an SRT Advanced class this would re-certify both your SRT Unit 1 and SRT Advanced status. If however you re-certify by attending an SRT Unit 1 this would re-certify your SRT Unit 1 status but not re-certify your Advanced status - you would no longer be active as an Advanced Technician.
- Water and rope rescue courses need to be re-certified separately i.e. if you are both an active SRT Unit 1 Technician and Technical Rope Rescue Technician you need to re-certify on each every three years.
- You need to be a current SRT Unit 1 Technician to attend a Swiftwater Rescue Boat Operators course. Both SRT Unit 1 and Swiftwater Rescue Boat Operator courses then need to be re-certified every three years.
- Training courses can be re-certified by attending the relevant competency based assessment :
a) SRT Unit 1 Technicians – you can re-certify by passing an SRT Unit 1 Competency Based Assessment. This will re-validate your SRT Unit 1 status for 3 years from the date you pass your Competency Based Assessment.
b) SRT Advanced Technicians – you can re-certify by passing a Pro Qualification Workshop Competency Assessment. This will re-validate your SRT Unit 1 and Advanced status for 3 years from the date you pass your Competency Based Assessment.
If you fail a Competency Based Assessment and it is more than three years since your relevant training course your status is no longer current.
- Rescue 3 Instructors have separate requirements to remain active and do not need to re-certify at technician level. You will receive info on how to stay valid as an Instructor on the training course.
