Swiftwater Rescue Boat Operator (SRBO) - General Information

This class is designed to train Rescue Technicians to operate from motorised boats in a swiftwater environment and complies with the training requirements of Defra Module 4. Two delivery options are available; a 4 day class which includes the RYA Level 2 Powerboat Award (the Level 2 is a pre-requisite for the SRBO class), or a 3 day course for those who already hold an RYA Level 2 Powerboat Award.
SRBO - 4 day option (includes RYA Level 2 Powerboat)
Course outline
Days 1 and 2 cover the RYA Powerboat Level 2 award whilst days 3 and 4 focus on motorboat handling in swiftwater conditions and the application of bank-based rescues from boats.

Includes:
- Flat water powerboat operations (RYA Level 2 content)
- Swiftwater features and hazards
- Motorboat handling in swiftwater conditions (ferry glides, breaking in & out, etc.)
- Application of bank based rescue techniques from boats:
- Casualty management techniques
- Access/egress options in powered boats
- Night operations
- Searching from powered boats
- Capsize and recovery drills
Course pre-requisites
Current Rescue 3 SRT certification or alternative Defra Module 3 compliant certification
SRBO - 3 day option (for certified RYA Level 2 Powerboat operators)
Course outline
The first day of the course is a powerboat operator refresher, preparing candidates for the rest of the course. Days 2 and 3 focus on motorboat handling in swiftwater conditions and the application of bank-based rescues from boats.

- Motorboat handling in swiftwater conditions (ferry glides, breaking in & out, etc.)

- Night operations
- Searching from powered boats
